I am so very sorry. I did not know Mel passed until today when I Googled his name. I met Mel at the local photography club. He seemed like a sweet soul. He would talk about his visit to and love for Arches National Park. When I finally was able to visit Arches, I thought of him. I did not know Mel well however he alone was my favorite photographer in the group, the friendliest and most approachable. To those of you who loved him, I am so deeply sorry to learn of his passing. - Rene Bechard

Dear Ellen,

Mel was a kind-hearted soul. He forever touched my life and although he only met Zak and Eli a couple times he always had a smile for them! His passion for teaching and care for others will be forever a part of his legacy. I'm sorry to learn of his passing and of his struggles.

Many healing and loving prayer being sent your way by our small family.

Like Sandy above, I only knew Mel through Flickr. He seemed a very fine gentleman with a true artist's heart. My condolences to his family. I'm sure it is a great loss.

David, Although we met your Dad only once, we felt we knew him through your stories. The greatest honor was to see some of his incredible paintings this past fall at the farm.
I bet he's teaching Van Gogh and Monet a thing or two.
One of his and your Mom's finest works
was you.

I'm so very sorry to hear about the death of Mel. Although I'd never met him personally I knew him through his art on Flickr and worked in several online art groups there with him.
He was such an inspirational artist, both in the digital art he created and also in the paintings he did which he put on his Flickr photostream. He had a wonderfully dry sense of humour and it was a joy to know him through his art. He will be so greatly missed on Flickr where he had many friends - he was such a popular person and a man of great creativity and artistic talent.
Thinking of his family at this very sad time; I'm so sorry to hear of your very great loss.

I am sorry for your loss. Mel was someone from my distant past; I always thought I'd see him again. Facebook showed me he never stopped being creative. I will remember him fondly.

Dearest Ellen and David,

I will never forget Mel. He was quite the man, so full of kindness and creativity. When I think of my parents' house, one of the first things that comes to mind is the portrait he painted of my parents. And when I think of Mel, I hear his vivacious laugh that brings a smile to my face every time. I am comforted to know he is now at rest, no longer in pain, hopefully with a camera and a paintbrush back in his hands.
Love you both, and will be thinking of you as you try and weather through the coming days and weeks.
