Thomas Elwood Gibson, Age 88, of Troy, OH passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at Koester Pavilion. He was born October 8, 1929 to the late Forest & Allie Catherine Gibson in Slaty Fork, West Virginia. He is preceded in death by his son Thomas Grant Gibson; grandson Tyler Brown; siblings Frank Gibson, Forrest Gibson, Fred Gibson, Stan Gibson, Dave Gibson and Charmalea Dailey. He will be missed and remembered by his loving wife Joan (Hinchman) Gibson of 61 years; daughters Alicia (Russ) Kimmel of Covington, Bonita (Ted) Taggart of Lebanon, and Christie (Sam) Brown of Troy; grandchildren Seth, Austin, Chase Brown, and Joseph Taggart; sister-in-law’s Ann Gibson and Barbara Hinchman. Thomas served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, attended West Virginia University then graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He taught for 29 years as a math and science teacher in the Milton Union Middle School in West Milton, OH. He also taught and principled in the Slaty Fork School in Slaty Fork West Virginia, Newton School in Pleasant Hill, OH and Jefferson Union School in Richmond, OH. Thomas was a member of the Lions Club and the Troy Fish & Game. He loved his family, teaching, farming, fishing, hunting and gardening. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton with Pastor Pam Hitchcock officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Friday, January 26 at the funeral home.
