David S. Cooper, Jr, age 87, of Potsdam, passed away on August 14, 2017 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born on April 19, 1930 in Kittanning, Pennsylvania to the late David and Florence (Wolfgang) Cooper. David is preceded in death by his daughters Joyce Ann Williams and Tammy Marie Mullins, sister Helen Balmert, and brother James R. (Russ) Cooper. He will be missed and remembered by his sons Gene A. Cooper of Englewood, David R. (Janine) Cooper of West Milton; daughter Donna Mae (Rick) Byram of Bradford; 8 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends – particularly Jerry Siler, Woodie Kirkwood, Clarence (Hooptie) Cooper, and the Karl Yoder family. David was a hard worker throughout his life. He worked long days at Cooper’s Printery in Vandalia, which he co-owned with siblings Helen and Russ, and then worked evenings at Trissel’s Sunoco station as a mechanic to provide for his family. He raced stock cars in his younger days, and he was an avid trap shooter, hunter and fisherman. David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force in the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion Post #668 in Vandalia. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, August 27 at Polk Grove Cemetery, 3710 W. National Road, Dayton with a celebration of life to immediately follow at the Englewood Government Center, 333 W. National Rd, Englewood, OH 45322. Arrangements are in care of Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, West Milton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of David.
