Amelia Elizabeth Schmidt

Amelia “Amy” Elizabeth Schmidt passed away on August 8, 2026 in Dayton, Ohio at the age of 64.

Amy was born on July 24, 1962 in Jamestown, Ohio to Leland and Leticia (Baldassarre) Schmidt who preceded her in death. She graduated from Bethel High School with the class of 1980 and later earned her bachelor’s degree in business management from Bluffton University. She carried that education into a career devoted to service, working as an administrator of Catholic churches across the area. In more recent years, she had discovered a new passion working with Crossroads Estate Sales uncovering and finding new homes for hidden treasures and family heirlooms. 

Her faith and sense of purpose were reflected not only in her career but also in the many ways she prioritized and cared for others. Amy passionately devoted her time and attention to her family and was an extraordinary mother and mamaw. She loved fishing and kayaking with her husband, shopping with her daughter, and watching her grandsons sports games. She offered generosity and comfort to anyone she met. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate someone or make them feel seen or special. 

All animals were deeply loved by Amy. She took loving care of her pets as well as every animal that stepped foot on her property. She fed them all, she saved any she could, and she spent much of her free time raising possums and caring for all the critters at Brukner Nature Center Animal Rehab and Care, where she proudly volunteered. Amy’s deepest joy and peace came surrounded by nature and wildlife. 

Amy appreciated and supported the Miami Valley Veterans Museum, where her beloved father’s military uniforms and WWII/Battle of the Bulge war memorabilia are held. 

Amy is deeply missed and remembered by her loving husband, Ronald Furlong; daughter and son-in-law, Casey and Graham Luce; sons, Anthony Legner and Daniel Legner; grandsons, Roman Isham and William Legner; brother, Daniel Schmidt and wife Tina; sister, Mary Ann Schmidt and husband Wayne; dogs, Solo and Lucy; grand dog, Snoopy. Many friends and fellow cancer warriors whose lives were touched by her empathy, encouragement, and steadfast love will also miss her dearly. 

Those who knew Amy will remember her for the gentle way she cared for the world, her silly humor and personality, and for the sincere and unapologetic way with which she lived her life. She was a woman of deep compassion and enduring strength, and her legacy will live on in the family she cherished and the many lives she enriched along the way.

Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 14, at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami Street, West Milton. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brukner Nature Center or the Miami Valley Veterans Museum.  Memories may be shared with the family online at www.hale-sarver.com
