David Wilbur Shellhaas, age 87, of West Milton, fell asleep in death on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. He was born June 1, 1939 to Russell Dale & Myrrl (Spence) Shellhaas in Troy, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Rose Mary, his parents, sister (Sally Pestle) and brother (John Shellhaas).    

He is survived by his children--Cynthia Shellhaas, Samuel Shellhaas, Alexander (Evelyn) Shellhaas and his grandchildren-- Macy, Ethan, and Jake Shellhaas as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

Dad was a 1957 graduate of Milton-Union High School and he always regretted not being able to go to college. He was determined that his children would do so and assisted them in these endeavors to the best of his ability.  Dad was a stationary engineer at Dayton Power and Light for 34 years; he finished as the manager of Longworth Street Station of the Steam Division. He then worked at the power house at Hobart, now part of ITW and finished his working life at Delphi Corporation, originally part of General Motors. 

Dad was a people person who would sit and talk with anyone.  He was well known for his sense of humor, quick wit and ability as a storyteller.  In his youth, he was a talented athlete and lettered in three high school sports—basketball, baseball, and track.  He had many interests which included, to name a few, guitar playing, clock repair, blacksmithing, and horseshoe pitching. 

The family appreciates the excellent care given by Story Point-West Milton; Vancrest—Upper Valley and Day City Hospice.  Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in care of Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, West Milton. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Day City Hospice.
