Debra Kay (Schoen) Cull Obituary

Debra Kay Cull (Schoen), lovingly known as Deb or Debbie, passed away May 20, 2026, in Moraine, Ohio. Born February 13, 1953, in Dayton, she lived a life defined by warmth, humor, resilience, and an enduring love for her family.

Debra had a gift for making people feel at ease and welcomed. With her quick wit, bright smile, and perfectly timed humor, she could lift a room and lighten even the hardest moments. Her kindness was natural and genuine, and she left people better for having known her.

She shared 54 years of marriage with her beloved husband, William, creating a life full of partnership, laughter, and adventure. She was a devoted mother to Kimberly (Edward) Carroll, Jennifer Cull, and Ryan (Sarah) Cull, and a proud grandmother to Morella, Liberty, Joseph, Aidan, William, Benjamin, and Charles. Her family was her greatest joy, and she loved them deeply and wholeheartedly.

Debra brought dedication and care to her professional life, including many years at Grandview Hospital and work with Victoria’s Secret Catalogue. Outside of her career, she embraced life with a sense of adventure.

Alongside William, she shared a remarkable chapter in hot air ballooning, where she played a central role in rides, repairs, and sales. Their balloon, sponsored by Capitol Dry Cleaning, became a familiar sight throughout Ohio and occasionally beyond. Ballooning was a true family experience, with all of their children involved, and it created some of their most treasured and enduring memories. Debra embraced it with joy, reflecting her willingness to rise above the ordinary, quite literally.

She also found happiness in life’s quieter pleasures, including word search puzzles, reading, painting, gardening, sewing, and time spent surrounded by flowers, as well as interests like ham radio and a Z28 Camaro car club, reflecting her curiosity and wide range of passions. These interests captured her appreciation for creativity, connection, and simple joys.

In the later years of her life, Debra found comfort in her Catholic faith, which offered her peace and strength.

She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings Larry (Joyce) Schoen, Richard (Lisa) Schoen, and Robin (Tony) McDaniel, and many beloved extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Shirley Schoen.

Debra will be remembered for the way she made others feel welcomed, encouraged, and often laughing. As Phyllis Diller once said, “A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.” Debra lived that truth, sharing her smile and humor as gifts to everyone around her. Her legacy is one of love, joy, and a spirit that lifted others and will continue to do so in the memories she leaves behind.
