Doris Jean Tomlin, age 96, of West Milton, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Story Point of West Milton. She was born November 13, 1929 to James Hiram & Mary Magdalene (Myrick) Turner in Thomas County, Georgia.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Charles Frederick Tomlin, daughter Mary Marie Tomlin; daughter-in-law Kim Christine Tomlin; siblings James Carl Turner (Eunice), Lillie Mae Rehberg (Russell), Joseph (JW) Turner (Letty), Burnice L Turner (Katherine), and Glenn D. Turner, and stepmother Amoret B. Turner
She will be missed and remembered by her loving children Charles Mark Tomlin of Indianapolis, IN, Timothy Scott (Robin) Tomlin of Arcanum, Sally Ann (Roger) Davidson of Troy; grandchildren Ryan (Brittnee), Grant (Kiersten), Sami (Jon), Trent (Brooklynn), Kurtis (Shelby), Kevin (Morgan), Layne, Michalla (Andy), Hayden, Drew, Parker; great grandchildren Charles, Isabelle, Emmeline, Barrett, Cameron, Noah, Collins, Tatum, Noley, Bentley, Lilliann and Arthur. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Eleise Turner of Central, SC, and special friends Mike Ayer and John Brackman.
Doris was a 1948 graduate of Thomasville (GA) High School. She was a southern bell homemaker and you could not enter her home without being offered a sandwich or at least a cookie and something to drink. She loved reading. She was a talented artist and much of her artwork is displayed in many of the family’s homes. In addition to raising her children, she held secretarial jobs over the years but especially enjoyed teaching Bible classes to the 4th grade students at Milton-Union Elementary School. She also loved working at the Gingerbread House and spending her paycheck on various collectibles. She was a member of Fairhaven Church, Northmont. She was a Stephen Minister, served on the Miami County Chaplaincy Council and served many years for Fish-Union Township. After retirement, she and Chuck enjoyed their winter home in Thomasville where she could enjoy time with her family.
Funeral services will be held on Monday August 17th, 2026 at 12:00pm at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton with Pastor John Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, West Milton. The family will receive friends from 10:00am-12:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Milton-Union Public Library or Fish-Union Township. The family would like to thank the staff of Storypoint, West Milton for the love and care they showed Mom over the past two years. We consider you all family.
