Forrest Delaplane Obituary

Forrest Leon Delaplane, completed his earthly journey on September 12, 2025, at the age of 79, in his hometown of West Milton, Ohio. Born on March 22, 1946, in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Frank and Margaet Ellen (Foureman) Delaplane, Forrest was a man of remarkable intellect, humor, and amity, traits that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Forrest graduated from Milton-Union High School in 1964 and went on to pursue his passion for education at Wright State University, where he received both his bachelor's degree in science and master's degree in education. This was the springboard to a distinguished 33-year tenure as a Geology/Earth Science teacher at Northmont High School. There, he didn't just teach; he inspired a love for the earth sciences in generations of students with a charisma and insight that won him the admiration of peers and pupils alike.

He leaves behind a legacy of love with his cherished wife, Carol Ann (Minnich) Delaplane; their daughters, Jennifer Delaplane of West Milton and Rebecca Robinett of Upper Arlington; and the light of his later years, his eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Elaine Delaplane of Pine Island, Florida. Forrest was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marilyn Gammel, and his brother Larry Delaplane.

Forrest's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid gardener, the fruits of his labor were a source of great pride and joy. He was also skilled with his hands, a craftsman who could turn wood into beautiful furniture. On peaceful days, one might find him with a fishing pole in hand or engaged in target shooting—activities that brought him close to the tranquility of nature he so loved. A talented cook, Forrest delighted in bringing flavors to life in his kitchen, much to the delight of his family and friends. Ever the social butterfly, many will remember the warmth and laughter that filled his gazebo during gatherings.

He was a Vietnam veteran who served his country in the US Army, and was dedicated member of the VFW Post 6557 Mountain Top.  He will be remembered as a man of intelligence, humor, and friendliness—a beacon of light to those who knew him and a model of the love and dedication one can bring to their life's work and pursuits.

Forrest's passage leaves a void in the fabric of the many lives he touched. Yet, in the memories and countless stories shared, his presence will forever be felt, as inspiring and enduring as the geological wonders he spent a lifetime studying and teaching. He was truly a man who made his mark on the world, not merely through his works but through the strength of his character and the depth of his relationships.
