The family of Freddie “Joyce” Hensley is deeply saddened to announce her passing on September 14th, 2026 in her home of 51 years in West Milton, OH. Born on March 9th, 1941 in Blue Holler, KY, Joyce lived a full and remarkable life.
After leaving home at the age of 16, Joyce set off to make a life for herself, traveling to Chicago, IL, then to Columbus, OH, before planting roots in Dayton, OH to work as a manager at Walker’s Fresh Fruit Drinks within the Dayton Arcade. She later would meet the love of her life, Thomas, and start their life together, one that would span the time of 65 years.
Joyce touched the hearts of everyone she met through her effortless art of homemaking and the neverending homemade meals she loved to share, her love of curating flower arrangements, both in her home and for life celebrations of loved ones, and her appreciation and focus on the little things in life. Joyce was known for her quick wit, funny quips, and the advice gained through her 85 years of life experience. Her willingness to step up and help support her grandkids is irreplaceable and created many memories that they will carry for the rest of their lives. Joyce was welcoming to any child in the neighborhood and was known to give rides to school for anyone who needed it. Joyce spent the majority of her life giving herself and serving those around her, and her presence in this world will leave a hole in the hearts of those who loved her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Thomas Hensley, her daughter, Jodie Brush, her grandkids Jacob Brush (William, Joanna, Lydia, & Andrew) and Brianna Bull, her siblings, Glen Powers, Maxine Fyfe, Trula (Chris) Perdue, Susie Powers, Ted (Pam) Powers, Pauline Powers, Lonnie (Loraine) Powers, Faye (Greg) Huffman, Luster (Carol) Powers, many nieces and nephews, and cherished friends. Joyce is preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Qualls, and her siblings, George Kenneth Powers, Beulah Napier and Clint Powers.
In accordance with Joyce's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
