Kauffman, Howard Gregory
Greg passed away on June 11 at the age of 66, the son of Howard “Pete” and Marjorie (Fogle) Kauffman, who preceded him in death. Greg is survived by his brother Chris (Penelope) and nieces Katrina and Hannah as well as brother Tim (Kathy). An avid Boy Scout, he earned the distinction of Eagle Scout and the Order of the Arrow through Troop 268 in Huber Heights. His continued interest in camping and travel took him to 49/50 states. Greg ran varsity track and field for Wayne High School (class of ’74) and attended the Montgomery Co. JVS where he studied drafting. Greg began a lifelong career in mechanical engineering with college degrees from Sinclair (A.A.S) and Wright State (B.S., M.S.) where his research interests included rocket science and spacecraft propulsion systems. Greg’s work life included everything from the design and manufacturing of micro-fuses, police radar detectors, and automotive parts to electric car battery systems. Beyond work Greg served as president and treasurer of the Friends of Carriage Hill Farm Board of Trustees, he enjoyed volunteering and was certified as a Historic Boiler Operator to run the steam engine at the farm. A life-long member of Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church, Greg served on many committees, participated in book club discussions, and traveled to the Dominican Republic and Haiti on mission trips. Greg will be missed for his willingness to pitch in and help when needed, keen sense of humor, service to the church at home and abroad, and thoughtful insights into the world that we live in.
