James Edward Gilbert

James Edward Gilbert, age 81, of West Milton, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at his home. He was born December 3, 1944 to Aaron & Martha (Brown) Gilbert in Dayton, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in- law Dave Collins, Dave Caplinger, and Dave Kracirik; sister-in-law Janie (Ron) Turner.

He will be missed and remembered by his loving wife Vicki (Truitt) Gilbert of 60 years of marriage that they just celebrated on March 12, 2026; children Molly (Craig) Brown of West Milton, and Matt (Karen) Gilbert of Englewood, FL; grandchildren Madeline (Colton) Troutwine, Olivia (Peyton) Brown, Carson Brown, Isabelle Gilbert, Rachel Fredrick, Amber Fredrick, Preston (Brianna) Fredrick; great grandson Jaxon Troutwine; his sisters Becky Collins, Diana Ireton, Brenda Caplinger, sister-in-law Debbie (Truitt) Kracirik; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was a 1962 Northmont High School graduate. He then went on to graduate from the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo in 1963. Jim served in the United States Army National Guard Reserves and retired as a plant supervisor at Anchor Fabricators in Clayton. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and loved woodworking, going fishing and camping. Jim loved watching birds, building model airplanes, and sitting around bonfires. He loved spending time with family and friends as well as helping and serving others. Jim loved watching his children and grandchildren in school and sporting events, rarely missing any games or activities. He loved spending time with his great grandson Jaxon whom brought him so much joy! He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton with a memorial service beginning at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County. Online memories of Jim may be left for the family at www.hale-sarver.com.
