James S. Mikels Jr

James Stanley Mikels Jr, age 72, of Piqua, formerly of Troy, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Hospice of Miami County. He was born December 13, 1949 to the late James Stanley Sr & Faye Beatrice (Snell) Mikels in Troy, Ohio. When he was younger growing up, he loved playing with his older sister Bonnie who was just a year older. Once he got into school, he made friends and played with them. Everyone called him Jimmie which stuck through his entire life.

When he turned eight, he became interested in Cub Scouting and stayed active and interested in scouting through his adult years. He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout and earned his churches scouting Duty to God Award. Jimmie was a member of The Order of the Arrow. He attended many Scout camps and traveled twice to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

He graduated from Troy high school and then attended United Electronics Trade School for a short time. His first job was working at Ho Jo’s as a cook. He also worked for the Ontario discount store as a warehouse manager. When Ontario went out of business he went to work for Hobart’s as a forklift driver. His last job was working for NKP who did packing and shipping for Honda in Sidney, where he retired.

Jimmie never married. He loved to travel. When his sister Bonnie married, he began to travel to Utah and Arizona to visit Bonnie, her husband Dave Freeman and their two sons Paul and Matthew. They would take him to other Western states and to Hawaii. Besides traveling he loved to watch old movies. His favorite actor was John Wayne.

He is survived by his sister, her husband, their two sons and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 PM on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton.
