James “Jim” McGuffey, age 70, of Laura, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County. He was born April 29, 1955 to James Edward & Bonnie Lou (Stoner) McGuffey in Dayton, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Michael McGuffey. He will be missed and remembered by his loving wife Kathy (Hissong) McGuffey of 51 years; sons Steven (Amanda) McGuffey of West Milton, and Matthew (Jenny) McGuffey of West Milton; grandchildren Madalyn (Grant) Deeter, Dylan, Mason, and Blake McGuffey.
Jim was a 1973 Milton-Union High School graduate. After graduating from the Hobart Welding School, he started his career as a welder. Jim eventually went into the machine trades working at G&G Tool in Sidney then opening his own shop “Rightway Fab & Machine.” Jim retired from Miami Valley Steel in Piqua to start our “Harley Riding Time.” He was a member of the Boy Scouts where he traveled to Philmont and then became an Eagle Scout. Jim loved being in the outdoors whether it was going fishing, camping, boating, or could find him riding his Harley.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held from 1-4 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at the Hale House Event Center, 320 N. Miami St, West Milton (adjacent the parking lot of Hale-Sarver FH). Arrangements are in care of Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, West Milton. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of his son at the Michael McGuffey Scholarship c/o Milton-Union Alumni Association.
