John Edmund Carter, 79, of Laura, Ohio, passed away peacefully into his heavenly home at Grandview Hospital of Dayton, Ohio, on May 14, 2025. John was born in Dayton, Ohio, on January 23, 1946, to the late John R. Carter and Norene C. (Garner) Carter.
John retired from General Motors, Delco Moraine Division, in 2001 following 25 years of service and was a proud member of the local union UAW 696. John was a member of Hoffman Global Methodist Church in West Milton.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his twin brother, Bill Carter, two sisters, Vena Rae Estridge and Avada Sue Butler. John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol, and one son, Eric (Shelly) Carter of Kettering, Ohio, two cherished grandchildren, Isaac and Quinn Carter and one sister-in-law, Patricia (Richard) Jordan, nieces and nephews, Mary Akers, Maria Comer, Michelle Butler, Mike Butler and Missie Blankenship plus many great-nieces and nephews. John also leaves behind his two loving and loyal companions, Maggie and Bear.
John was an avid reader and a life-long learner who enjoyed learning to play the guitar, speaking French and discovering new skills to improve his golf game. He enjoyed listening to music, gardening and watching his Cincinnati Bengals football! But his happiest of times were spent with family at holiday and summer get-togethers. His greatest joy in life was the precious time spent with his two beloved grandchildren, Isaac and Quinn.
