Mary Lucille Kauffman Obituary

Mary Lucille Kauffman, age 94, of BrookHaven Retirement Community, passed away on April 19, 2023. She was born on April 3, 1929, in Philipsburg, Ohio, to Noah and Edna (Uhrig) Surber. Most people knew her as “Lucille” for the greater part of her life. She was a 1947 graduate of Phillipsburg High School.

In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Kenneth E. Kauffman; sisters Mabel Chromey and Pauline Seibel; son-in-law James Noffsinger.

She is survived by son Keith (Carma Jo) Kauffman, Danville; daughters Linda Noffsinger, Loveland, Colorado, and Beverly (Bill) Klepinger, Laura; grandchildren: Jeffrey Noffsinger, Jodi Noffsinger (Chien Hwang), Jamie Metzger, Kelly Kidwell, Amy (Chad) Booher, Emily (Kyle) Hatfield; twelve great-grandchildren; nephew Bill Chromey; niece Lori Seibel; and many Kauffman nieces and nephews who loved “Aunt Lucille.” Lucille and Kenny owned the 100+ year-old Kauffman family farm which they farmed together for 60 years. She had also been a bus driver for Milton-Union Schools for 27 years. Typical of those in The Greatest Generation, she was an incredibly hard worker. She would hop from the driver’s seat of a school bus to the seat of a tractor (or combine!) and then to the farmhouse kitchen to put a pie in the oven and prepare a farmers’ supper. She loved being outdoors, doing yard work, gardening and mowing. In more recent years she enjoyed doing word search and playing card games on her computer. She had a sweet disposition, a quick wit and ready laugh, and she loved her family more than anything else. She (and her great sense of humor!) will be missed by her loving family and all who knew her.

Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM on Monday, April 24, with funeral service following at 11:00 AM at Hale-Sarver Funeral Home, West Milton.
