MIRIAM J. SMITH “MICKIE”
Miriam J. Smith, age 89 of Tiffin, formerly of West Milton, OH passed away peacefully at home with her daughter on Friday, August 19, 2022. Home at last in Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Miriam was born May 1, 1933 in Mansfield, OH to the late Thomas and Marian Gorman; adopted in 1939 at the age of 5 by the late Rev. L.A. and Dorothy Helen (Stedwill) Donnally.
Miriam graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1951 and Rio Grande College in Gallipolis, OH in 1955 where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
Miriam married Robert L. Arnold (deceased) on August 25, 1956. She married Carl M. Smith, Jr. “Smitty” on October 20, 1988. He passed away in 2011.
Also preceded in death by her siblings, Margaret Ann Smith, Rial Gorman and Lois Joyner.
Miriam enjoyed teaching and genuinely cared for her students. In 1977 she had the opportunity to travel with a group of teachers to Europe to teach in the schools in England. Her first plane ride ever was on the Concorde Jet. While in Europe, they visited Scotland, Holland, Paris and London. It was the trip of a lifetime and she enjoyed telling people about her experience. Miriam retired from Milton-Union Schools in 1988 after 30 years of teaching.
Miriam loved to travel, taking trips across country with Smitty and her friend Mary. She also had a love of music, singing in choirs and playing the piano. After retirement she enjoyed sewing for people, doing arts and craft projects, reading and working word search puzzles. She had a sincere love for people and enjoyed talking with them. She never knew a stranger. She was kind to everyone and made them feel welcome.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Tara Davis of Tiffin and Sharon (Jimmy) Wheelock of West Milton, two grandsons, Jeremy Davis and Kasey Wheelock, along with many friends and neighbors.
