Nevin Douglas Kress, age 77, passed on October 16, 2024 at his home in Clayton, OH. “Doug” as he was called since childhood, was born April 3, 1947 to the late Herbert and Edna Kress who resided in Darke County near Potsdam, OH.
He graduated from Franklin-Monroe High School in 1965 and joined the U.S. Coast Guard after working briefly in the Dayton, OH area. He spent most of his service time on the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin and remained in the area after his discharge. He was a long-time reside of Washington Island, Wisconsin area.
Doug was a highly skilled block, brick, and stone mason. He also was an outstanding woodworker who made many treasured items including fancy, one of a kind, lamps and pictures frames.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise (Doyle) Fisher and Carolyn Darlene (David) Fourman; and two nephews Kirt and Steve Fourman. He is survived by a sister, Madonna (Gene) Hollingsworth; three nieces, Jill (Jose) Gomez, Beth (Jerry) Van Riper, and Pam (Tim) Mahorney; and three nephews, Jeff Fourman, Bruce (Candy) Fourman, Randall (Melinda) Fisher, and a step-son Jacob Gransee.
Visitation will be held from 11 AM- 12 PM on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton. Visitation will be followed by a brief service at 1:45 PM at the Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton where he will be laid to rest.
