Omer W Hayes

Omer Wendell Hayes, age 94, of West Milton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Hospice of Miami County in Troy. He was born October 8, 1931 to the late Frank & Della (Hale) Hayes in Morgan, Kentucky. 

He will be missed and remembered by his loving children Marcia (Robert) Cox of West Milton OH, Pamela Hayes of Round Rock TX, Teresa (Roberto) Santos of Mishawaka IN, and Marla Hayes (Markos Paradissis) of Vermilion OH; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law Randell and Joy (Peck) Hayes; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family. He is also survived by his dear companion of his later years, Edith (Edie) Sage of Piqua, Ohio. 

In addition to his parents, Omer was preceded in death by his loving wife Anna Mary (Leist), brothers Eldon and Denzil Hayes, and sisters Ada, Dorothy and Betty Hayes. 

Omer showed dedication to his country by serving in the Army and fought in the Korean War. He was a faithful member of the Nashville United Church of Christ and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Middleman Ministries in Mexico. He loved being outdoors, and making great memories with friends and family while camping, fishing and hiking all over the USA. He had talents too numerous to mention and blessed the world around him with the kind of knowledge that can only be gained through experience. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM on Monday, April 27, 2026 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton, with a service starting at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Wheelock Cemetery in West Milton. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Hospice of Miami County or Union Township EMS.
