Opal I (Harshbarger) Stockslager

Opal Irene Stockslager, age 90, of Dayton, formerly of Tipp City, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026. She was born November 22, 1935 to Jacob Abia & Kathryn Margaret (Oburn) Harshbarger in Covington, Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband James W. Stockslager in 2010; daughter Jill Stockslager, and siblings Lois (Doug) Hohn, Norene (DeWitt) Hogle, Marcus Harshbarger, Jim Harshbarger, and Jane Garber.
She will be missed and remembered by her loving children Mark Stockslager of Atlanta, GA, Jane (Jay) Height of Indianapolis, IN, and Judy (Bart) Kahler of Dayton; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister Nancy (Tom) Noonan of Millbrook, NY; brother-in-law Leland Garber of St. Paris, OH; and sister-in-law Ruthie Harshbarger
of Big Canoe, GA.
Opal was a 1953 Milton-Union High School graduate. She loved her family, good books, crossword puzzles, quilting, traveling, bluegrass music, and PBS. Opal married her high school sweetheart Jim in 1955 and worked at Aeroproducts as a secretary prior to raising her family. She was both the Nashville United Church of Christ organist and treasurer. Following Jim’s retirement, they traveled the USA, including a wonderful cruise to Alaska.
The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton with a memorial service beginning at 2:30 PM. Interment will be held at a later date in Wheelock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Opal’s name to Shepherd Community, 4107 E.
