Patricia Ann Shawler, age 86, of Union, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 21, 1939 to Leo Patrick & Vera Mardel (Lindsey) Kelley in Willard, Ohio.

She is preceded in death by parents; son-in-law Doug Stolle; brothers Robert Kelley and John Kelley; brother-in-law Robert Hunt; sister-in-law Shirley Kelley.

She will be missed and remembered by her loving husband Donald E. Shawler of 65 years; children Sheryl (Greg) Abel of Houston, TX, Cindy Stolle of Kettering, and Kevin (Jeannie) Shawler of Arcanum; grandchildren Mike Smith (Shyra), Shannon Peck (Tom), Lauren Rumsey (David), Nicole Abel (Colby); great grandchildren Shyenne, Makenna, Cade, Caisley, Tre, Kenna, Bryce; siblings William (Kate) Kelley of Decatur, IN, Karen Hunt of Tampa, FL; sister-in-law Saundra Kelley of Worthington, OH; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Patricia graduated from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in education then went on to complete her masters at Wright State University. She retired after 27 years as a junior high teacher with the Trotwood Madison School District. After retirement, Patricia worked as a substitute teacher for Northmont Elementary schools for 5 years. She loved watching the Ohio State Buckeyes football, reading, and shopping for clothes, jewelry, and home décor. Patricia loved decorating and celebrating all holidays, playing cards, swimming, and all types of dancing.

The family would like to give a thank you to Pat’s care team from Day City Hospice, especially her Case Manager, nurse Nicole. Also, the family is grateful for the loving care and continued support from caretakers Shannon, Lisa, and Lakenya from Home Instead. Finally, thank you to Engaging Days Enrichment Center where Abbey Osbourne and her team provided fun and joy for Patricia in her final years.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Monday, May 18, 2026 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM.
