Paul Herman Winters, age 85, of Bushnell, Florida, formerly of Ludlow Falls, Ohio, passed away Sunday January 31, 2021, at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, Florida after a brief illness. He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Nadine Winters, and son, Kenneth (Anita) Winters. He will be missed and remembered by his brothers David Winters of Westerville, Ohio, and Harold Winters of Thurman, Ohio; children Paul P. Winters of Bushnell, Florida, Dennis Winters of Columbus, Ohio, Joseph Winters of Columbus, Ohio, Mark (Melissa) Winters of Boise, Idaho, and Valerie (Kris) Shelley of Greenville, Ohio; loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul met his wife, Phyllis Nadine Berry, in Columbus, Ohio. They married in Indiana in June, 1953. The family grew to six children and resided in the Columbus area until moving in 1969 to Ludlow Falls, Ohio. He and Phyllis retired to Bushnell in 1991. Mrs. Winters passed away in 2007. Paul was an expert mechanic and machine operator. He was also a thoroughbred horse trainer in the 1960s. He worked at Midland-Ross in Columbus, Ohio, and Tube Specialists in Bradford, Ohio, until his retirement. Paul strived to be a faithful Christian. He read from his Bible daily, regularly attended church, and tithed from his limited income. He lived a very simple life in retirement. He often gave what little he had to others, and he was known for always being available to help a neighbor. For the last several years, he enjoyed socializing at the local Walmart and various restaurants in his adopted hometown of Bushnell. He volunteered at the Osprey Point Nursing Center in Bushnell, and the staff and residents loved “Mister Paul”. In March 2020, Mr. Winters became very ill with a bacterial infection. He was hospitalized in Inverness, Florida. He transferred to Osprey Point Nursing Center in Bushnell, where he remained as a resident until his death. Purcell Chapel in Bushnell, Florida, is providing services and arrangements. Internment will be at Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield, Ohio. A family memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s name to local animal shelters.
