Phyllis Evans (Oburn)

On January 10th, a loving family said goodbye to Phyllis Evans (Oburn), a lifelong resident of West Milton, after 86 fulfilling years. She was born February 25, 1932, to Arthur and Iona Oburn, who precede her in death. She was married to Carl (Corky) Evans for 46 ½ years before his death in 2002. Phyllis is survived by two sons, Dan (Mindy) of Laura and David (Phyllis) of Clayton, a daughter Julie (Charlie) VanDruff of Laguna Hills, CA., four grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer) Evans of Bradford, Lindsay (Mark) Lane of West Milton, Katelyn Evans of Dayton, and Kailee of Laguna Hills, CA as well as three great grandchildren, Hayven, Hadley, and Hazelynn. Also surviving are sisters Doris (Herb) Johns of West Milton and Connie Furrow of Christiansburg. Phyllis was a 1950 graduate of Milton-Union schools and attended Miami Jacobs Business College.  She worked at Frigidaire, as a secretary to the Supt. of Milton-Union Schools, and as clerk-treasurer to the Milton-Union Library. She served on the library board and was part of the Friends of the Milton-Union Library that helped build the library’s permanent home in 1979. She was a 50+ year member of the Sharon Chapter, O.E.S. #132 and did volunteer work. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, walking, sewing, quilting, painting, and refinishing furniture.  She was quite the artist with several paintings over her life time. She was of Christian faith. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton with a celebration of life to follow at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, West Milton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Phyllis’ memory to the Milton-Union Scholarship fund, PO Box 383, West Milton, OH 45383; Milton-Union Public Library, 560 S. Main St., West Milton, OH 45383; Union Township Rescue Squad, West Milton, OH 45383.
