Phyllis Jane Taylor of West Milton, age 98, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Miami County on May 29, 2024. Phyllis was born on January 17, 1926 in West Milton, Ohio in the garage of her current and nearly lifelong home. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Erma E. (Kauffman) Puterbaugh, and proud sister of the late Dale, Raymond, and Robert Puterbaugh, all World War II survivors/veterans.
Phyllis graduated from Milton-Union High School, class of 1944. She was hired by the United States Postal Service in West Milton during World War II, and retired as a postal supervisor 30+ years later. She married Charles L. Taylor, and they made a life together for 56 years before his passing in June of 2009. Phyllis was a member of the West Milton United Church of Christ and the Miltonian Women's Club, and was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star as Worthy Matron, and in 1965 as Deputy Grand Matron of District 9.
With her infectious laugh, determination, and unquenchable positive attitude, Phyllis lit up every room she walked into. She enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years, golfing (even scoring a hole-in-one once!), gardening & making her yard look beautiful, and hosting the Tuesday night pizza party for her close neighbors up until the time of her death. She was an amazing and inspirational woman and will be forever missed by all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Visitation will be from 1-3 PM on Sunday, June 2, 2024, with a funeral service beginning at 3 PM at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton. Private burial at Riverside Cemetery, West Milton will take place on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milton-Union Alumni Association.
