Richard Coatney, age 77, of Piqua, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024. He was born February 27, 1947 to the late Charles Richard Coatney & Frances Jean (Kellis) Altic in Dayton, Ohio.
He will be missed and remembered by his sister Nancy Rampenthal of Woodstock, GA; nephews Christopher and Matthew Poje of Atlanta, GA and their families.
Richard worked for Enterprise Car Rental at the Dayton International Airport. Other than working at the airport, he used his Master’s degree in Art History to pursue a lifelong love of art, talented in both photography and painting. He taught children at the art museum in South Carolina and later taught art in a Charter school. In addition, he had a passion for horses and had worked for the Hall of Fame Thoroughbred trainer, Woody Stephens. He was a superb rider and had a way with all animals. When he was not painting, he was out running with his beloved dog, Nancy. Two weeks before he died, he sent a text to his sister: “I feel better than I ever have. I ignore the little things and wonder at the good things. LIFE is the miracle!”
A memorial gathering will be held from 1-3 PM on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton.
