Ruth Crowell Obituary

Ruth Ann (Ganger) Crowell, proud 1962 graduate of Arcanum High School, was born on May 27, 1944 to Henry D. Ganger and Opal Naomi (Eby) Ganger at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. Her father and her delivering physician stated that she “looked like a Susie if there ever was one” and her family and friends have called her by that nickname ever since. Ruth Ann departed this life in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 22, 2019. She is survived by Larry G. Crowell, her husband of 56 years; son, Jeffrey Allan Crowell, and daughter-in-law, Brook Elaine Crowell of Miamisburg, Ohio; daughter Janelle Arlene Crowell-Dawson, and son-in-law Geoffrey Bryan Dawson, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; brother Dale Kenneth Ganger, and sister-in-law Barbara Ganger, of Arcanum, Ohio; seven grandchildren- Jeffrey Charles Crowell of Cincinnati, Ohio; Reed, Rowan, and Bryn Dawson of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; and Rainey, Myron, Zane Wullenweber of Miamisburg, Ohio, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.  Ruth Ann is preceded in death by both her parents, her oldest brother, Arthur Dwaine Ganger of Greenville, Ohio, and infant brother Eldon Ganger, who passed away just ten months after birth. She also left behind several special friends; Wayne Hobbs (a noted Hawaiian guitarist) and Terry Hobbs of New Carlisle, Ohio; Jerry Dowling (a noted caricaturist for the Cincinnati Enquirer) and Geraldine Dowling, of Hebron, Kentucky; Dennis Schock and Pamela Schock of Star Point Village, Tennessee; Jack and Barbara Miles of Englewood, Ohio, with whom she and her husband traveled on a twenty eight day eleven country trip through northern Europe to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversaries, and Charles and Carol Arnett of Union, Ohio, with whom she participated in a weekly Monday afternoon dinner and Bible Study. Ruth Ann enjoyed collecting handmade quilts and beautiful glassware, attending the monthly Mercy Street meeting at the Christian Life Center, and spending time with her special friends at the Twin Dragon Asian Buffett at West Chester, Ohio, and at Silver Bell Mobile Home Park and Star Point Village near Dale Hollow Lake at Byrdstown, Tennessee. She also enjoyed world travel and bimonthly dinner/recreation events with the “Cruise Crew” with whom she cruised Hawaii, Alaska, St. Lawrence Seaway, Panama Canal, Eastern/Western/Southern Caribbean, Bahamas and Bermuda over the last dozen years of her life. Her husband, Larry, dragged her all around the world visiting the countries of Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Scotland, Ireland, England, Burma, India (where Ruth Ann and her husband devoted two years in the Peace Corps service), Kashmir Territory, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and a few others. Mimicking Ferdinand Magellan 500 years earlier, she circumnavigated the globe in a span of two years. Larry is extremely grateful to the Kettering Cancer Center and its staff for their efforts in giving Ruth Ann an additional seventeen years of life. She had been struggling for that length of time with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), Myatonic Dystrophy (MTD), Subdural Hematomas (SDH), Bilateral Pulmonary Embolisms (BPE), and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) - a veritable alphabet soup of serious medical conditions. We will miss her vibrant personality and endless questioning until we meet again. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St, West Milton. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Englewood. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Thursday, September 26 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Kettering Cancer Center, 3700 Southern Blvd, Kettering, OH 45429. Online memories of Ruth Ann may be left for the family at www.hale-sarver.com.
