Tim Allen Pinkerton, age 68, of Trotwood, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born April 27, 1956 to the late Robert Lester Pinkerton & Norma Pinkerton Betten in Huntington, Indiana.
He will be forever loved and held in their hearts by his loving wife Cinda Hanbuch-Pinkerton of 47 years; daughter Meganmarie (Adam) Dennis; son Skyler Pinkerton (Nicole Coulon); grandchildren Maevry and Larkin; dog Grizzby.
Tim retired from Beavercreek City Schools as a science teacher of 35 years. Tim loved his students and the school staff and teachers he taught with. During that time he coached wrestling, football, cross country, and volleyball and was still coaching wrestling even this past season. Tim will be remembered for his ability to bring excitement into the classroom through his creative demonstrations and experiments. They learned about physics by shooting off rockets, tectonic plates by studying rocks, and invertebrates with his “Eat Your Chapter Unit”. They even learned about Tropical Field and Marine Life and Ecology through the educational trips he organized to Andros Island in the Bahamas every other year. He was the kind of guy that took middle school students to the Bahamas and also to Florida to swim with the Manatees! Tim’s students and athletes will remember him as a scholastic giant that didn’t try to impress them with what he knew, but asked them to come along and explore with him. Tim received honors as coach of the year many times over the years and Tim’s students honored him multiple times by naming him as their most influential teacher of their school years when they graduated from high school.
Tim was a pilot and avid restorer of antique airplanes. He loved aviation, especially his second home, Waco Air Field in Troy, Ohio. Tim was not only a participant, but an active leader in WACO and OX5 Aviation Pioneers organizations and activities. Up until his heart attack in December he was teaching classes of students at Waco where they were actively involved in restoring airplanes. Tim loved his students and many friends at Waco, including his Tuesday and Thursday breakfast crews in Brookville and Laura.
Tim built a family with Cinda, his love for almost 50 years and wife for almost 46 of those years. He loved Cinda fiercely and showed his love daily through his creative cooking and home projects that included making a 30 foot cat walk, so their cats could go outside from their bedroom. He would do such things as show up at her school program that she would be teaching on Valentines Day dressed in a tuxedo and presenting roses to her. He embraced her love of animals by supporting and loving with her their extensive animal family. Living life to the fullest together, picking the strawberries of happiness, enjoying family, home, the outdoors, and traveling together they loved, lived and adventured around the world together. Every May and October presented new building projects with Cinda as the foreman as he created gifts for his grandchildren’s (Maevry and Larkin) birthday parties, which were considered “EPIC”. Tim never missed anything that his children, Skyler and Meganmarie, were involved in. He attended and many times participated in every event of their childhood and even into adulthood. He was their coach in most of their sports participation. He was a leader in their YMCA Indian Guide and Princess programs. Tim was a prop master for many of their show choir performances. He dressed up like his favorite character in Skyler’s plays (His favorite character was the one Skyler was playing) and drove around the midwest with a tray full of chocolate covered strawberries to give Meganmarie and her teammates after their races. He even attended many of Adam’s basketball games that he coached, where he could sometimes be found catching a nap in the bleachers.
Tim loved flying and sailing, he loved cars, tractors and building things, he loved the outdoors, gardening, cooking, reading, beekeeping, acting in the Brookville community theater, telling funny stories (especially about Cinda!), and playing Santa’s Helper for children, but he didn’t love any of those things more than he loved Cinda and the family that they have built. Tim loved spending time with extended family and friends. Tim planned trips to get his family together, including the annual Pinkerton and Hanbuch Beach Vacations. Horvath Clan get-togethers were also a favorite that often included sailing adventures. At the beach he was the sand castle king and would most often play the role of chef for the extended family, making sure everyone had some love in their belly as they nursed sun kissed skin from the sun. He adored that time that was created with all.
Tim’s life was built around giving to everyone, creating adventures, and making the people around him happy.
Obviously, this is not an extensive list as obituaries are not intended to be of such length that they may require to be read in more than one sitting. However, Tim was a giant of a man and these are just a few highlights of the things he expressed a great deal of care for.
