Wencel F. Hetman passed away April 22nd, 2025, at the age of 96. He was born October 5th of 1928 in Chicago, IL, to the late Wencel F. Hetman Sr and Helen Marie Hetman (Gordon).
He is survived by siblings Mary Anne, Joseph and Thomas, and many friends and family members who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his brother John.
Wencel graduated from St. Procopius High School in 1948 before joining the United States Air Force. He admirably served his country for 5 years before being honorably discharged in 1953.
After his military career he worked at the Great Lakes Naval Station until the late 50s, when he was selected for a new training program called Computer Programming. This began a flourishing career in the computer industry that he continued until he retired from NCR as a Systems Analyst.
Windy, as he was affectionately known, married the love of his life Carol Jean Schrade in January 1954. They had six children Michael (Tanya), Kathleen, Therese (Marshall), Cynthia (Michael), Denise (Clyde) and Mary (Russell), 16 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
When he wasn’t spending time with his family, he could be found pursuing his outdoor passions of golfing, fishing, and riding his bicycle. He also loved square dancing and carpentry. He was a member of the St. Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia, OH.
Celebration of Life for Windy will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Riverside Cemetery, 101 Riverside Dr, Troy, OH. Arrangements are in care of Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, West Milton. Online memories of Windy may be left for the family at www.hale-sarver.com.
